Building Acceptance & Offering Hope For People With Special Needs
About Us
Our Vision & Mission
To be outstanding in providing acceptance and hope for people with special needs in Singapore through God's love.
Our Philosophy Each and every one of us, including persons with disabilities, has unique God-given: - Worth that needs to be recognised and appreciated, and - Potential that can be identified and developed.
Our Core Values Christian Values - The fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; - What the Lord requires of us (Micah 6:8) - justice, mercy, humility.
Hope - Discontented with the status quo, we look forward to a better future for everyone within our circle of influence.
Our Beneficiaries Christian Outreach to the Handicapped (COH) serves:
- Individuals aged between 16 and 55 years old (those above 55 years old may participate in the centre programme on a case-to-case basis depending on their health condition);
- Those who have an intellectual disability (IQ below 70), and may have other accompanying conditions such as Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), speech impairment, hearing impairment, physical disability, epileptic fits, etc.;
- Regardless of race, religion and financial background.
Our Services COH runs Emmanuel Activity Centres in two locations – Tampines and Toa Payoh to provide day activity programmes on weekdays (Monday - Friday, 9am - 3pm).
We provide a caring environment to promote a more fulfilling life for persons with disabilities through achieving the following outcomes:
- Integration into society;
- Development of functional skills for greater independence in different aspects of life.
In addition, COH also provides practical support to disadvantaged families of our beneficiaries.
Fees
The cost of caring for one person with disability (client) is about S$1,000 a month. The fee charged by COH ranges from S$20 to S$900 based on government means testing and COH fee subsidy, which is determined by the household income of the client.
Our Programmes
To enhance the quality of life of our beneficiaries, COH provides a range of activities and training, which include the following:
- Training in Activities of Daily Living (ADL), such as personal grooming, feeding, mobility, toileting;
- Training in Community Living Skills (CLS), such as social skills, community mobility (using public facilities), community activities (include sports & games, performing arts, art & craft), home living (household chores);
